Phillies Scout Sherrill, Interest in Nady Confirmed

George Sherrill

Yesterday, it was reported (see below this post) that the Phillies were interested in trading for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.  The post was sourced using reports in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.

Today, Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated confirms the Phillies’ interest in Nady.  SI.com also reports that the asking price for Nady has ‘loosened’ and it is believed he will be moved from Pittsburgh.

The Phillies had a scout at the Orioles game on Tuesday to watch O’s closer George Sherrill who was a first time All-Star in 2008.  Sherrill, a 31 year old lefty, is 3-4 with a 3.89 ERA and 29 saves.

Sherrill is one of the more coveted relievers on the market, which increases his price tag.  It is interesting, however, that the Phillies are at least considering making a run for him.
