As rookies and select veterans report to Eagles training camp, there are a lot of question marks around the nest. The two biggest questions are whether Brian Westbrook and or Lito Sheppard become camp hold outs and if the Eagles still have interest in trading the unhappy cornerback.
Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily news writes that age will dictate Brian Westbrook’s contract and there are more than a few people in the organization who expect Westbrook to be a hold out early in training camp.
Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Cleveland Browns may be interested in acquiring Sheppard. However, Grossi writes the asking price for Sheppard this close to the start of the season may have gone up from a high second round pick to a future first round selection.
The Eagles would be well suited having three top cornerbacks with a division full of elite wide receivers. Also, look what the Eagles have done recently with first round picks. They have traded out of the top round the past two years. Keep Sheppard and use more nickel formations where you can get all three corners on the field. Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Johnson, the master of the blitz, is sure to come up with some great fresh looks for opponents this season with the services of Asante Samuel, Sheldon Brown and Sheppard.
Don’t give Lito one for the road.
