Phillies Land Blanton

Joe Blanton

Buster Olney is reporting the Phillies have traded for Joe Blanton from the A’s in exchange for three minor league players.  The Phillies shipped Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman, and Matt Spencer to Oakland.  Cardenas and Outman are both good prospects with bright futures.  However, Cardenas is a second baseman and there doesn’t seem to be a future for him in Philadelphia with Chase Utley here.

Blanton struggled this year in Oakland and brings a career 4.25 ERA with him to Citizens Bank Park.

In 2006, Phillies’ GM Pat Gillick brought in Jamie Moyer.  In 2007, Gillick landed Kyle Lohse.  Now, in 2008, Gillick’s big splash in a little puddle brings Joe Blanton packing for Philadelphia.

Buster Olney writes about why Blanton is a good fit in Philadelphia.

Gillick is 2-2.  Can he make it a perfect 3-3?
