Matt Cain to the Phillies?

Randy Miller from PhillyBurbs.com reports that the Phillies may be interested in acquiring San Francisco Giants’ righty Matt Cain.  Cain, 23, could not become a free agent until after the 2011 season.

Cain has a career 3.80 ERA on a bad Giants team and would be a welcomed young addition to the Phillies staff.  Although he isn’t on the level of CC Sabathia or Rich Harden, Cain would give the Phillies a good arm for a postseason run.  Cain would also allow Charlie Manuel to pencil in another quality starter for three more seasons.

For now, the Phillies could make a deep October run with the addition of Matt Cain and a rehabilitated Brett Myers.

Hamels – Cain – Myers – Kendrick – Moyer

That rotation could go a long way in the National League with the Phillies’ potent lineup.
