Phillies Eye Fuentes, Place Victorino on Trading Block

According to ESPN Insider, (link requires a subscription) the Phillies are one of five finalists to land Rockies’ southpaw reliever Brian Fuentes.

Fuentes and his career 3.42 ERA would be a welcomed addition to the best bullpen in the game.  Aside from a solid ERA and a resume with three All-Star game selections, Fuentes would serve as a second quality lefty at Charlie Manuel’s disposal.

The same report mentions that the Phillies will listen to offers for Shane Victorino in a deal to bring a number one pitcher to Philadelphia.  Victorino, 27, could be packaged with top prospects such as Carlos Carrasco, Greg Golson, or Adrian Cardenas.

If Victorino leaves town, the Phillies would be left with an outfield of Pat Burrell, Jayson Werth, and Geoff Jenkins.  Greg Dobbs and the much maligned So Taguchi would be available as well.  I might do a deal such as Victorino and Cardenas if the top level pitcher coming in return is signed past this year.  Don’t break the bank for a rental pitcher.
