Leaving Hawk Hill

Doug Overton leaves Hawk Hill to the New Jersey Nets as a coach.

Ray Parrillo reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer that Doug Overton will leave Saint Joseph’s to become an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets.

After two seasons with the Hawks, Overton heads back to the Nets where he spent three stints during his 11 year NBA career.

More Former Hawks

Pat Calathes ’08 has entered the latest mock draft for ESPN and DraftExpress.

ESPN’s Chad Ford projects Calathes to be selected 48th overall by the Phoenix Suns.  Draft Express believes Calathes will be taken four spots earlier by the Utah Jazz.

“In my heart of hearts, my sense is that he will be drafted in the second round”, said Saint Joseph’s head coach Phil Martelli.

Martelli believes Calathes projects as a second-round player for a Western Conference team. He believes the more open style of play out West will suit Calathes’ skill set.

Finally, I send my condolences to the family of former Hawk Nemanja Petrovic ’97 who died last week of a viral infection in his home country of Serbia.
